Spring Into Organizing: 3 Things to Organize in Your Home to Welcome Spring 2026

There’s a reason many of us feel the urge to reset our homes when spring arrives. As the days get longer and natural light increases, our brains naturally shift out of winter’s slower, hibernation-like rhythm. Research shows that increased daylight can boost mood, energy, and motivation, which is why spring often feels like the perfect time to declutter and refresh our spaces.
You don’t need to overhaul your entire home to tap into that feeling. Organizing just a few small areas can build momentum and instantly make your home feel lighter and more functional.
Here are three simple places to start this spring.

1. Mugs
Winter is peak mug season. Between coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cozy evenings, mugs get a lot of use during colder months. By the time spring arrives, you probably know exactly which ones you reach for every day and which ones sit untouched at the back of the cabinet.
Take everything out and look at your collection. Keep the mugs you genuinely enjoy using, and consider donating the ones you rarely reach for. Most people only use a handful regularly, and freeing up that cabinet space can make your kitchen feel instantly calmer.

2. Board and Card Games
Winter is also prime time for board games and card games. As spring approaches and we spend more time outside, it’s a great moment to tidy up the game cupboard.
Start by sorting games into piles by size. Larger board games can be stacked neatly on a shelf, while smaller games and decks of cards store well in baskets or bins. If you have games with lots of small pieces, use zip bags or small containers inside the box to keep everything together.
The goal is simple: when the next game night comes around, you can find everything easily.

3. Winter Clothes and Gear
Spring is the perfect time to review what you actually wore this winter.
Take a pass through your closet and winter gear. Which sweaters, coats, scarves, and snow gear did you reach for regularly? Which pieces stayed untouched all season? This can apply for kids too!
If something didn’t get worn at all, it’s a good candidate to donate. When deciding what to keep, take inspiration from organizing expert Marie Kondo and ask a simple question: does this still spark joy?
Clearing out unworn winter items before storing the season away makes next year’s winter wardrobe simpler and more intentional.
Spring organizing doesn’t have to mean tackling your entire home at once. Small resets, like clearing out mugs, tidying board games, or reviewing winter clothes, can create immediate breathing room and help your home feel refreshed for the season ahead.
(P.S. Spring is also a great time to change your toothbrush :) )
